BARLAW is led by our partners: Mrs. Barrera, who has more than 28 years of experience in the field; Mrs. Herrera, with more than 20 years; and Mrs. Albarracin, with 12 years of expertise. We also have 15 experienced associates. Our team comprises approximately 50 professionals, including engineers, veterinarians, pharmaceutical chemists, translators, IP technicians, paralegals, legal assistants, trainees, and administrative staff.
We cover a wide spectrum of IP matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, plant variety protection, IP enforcement, IP litigation, IP licensing and IP consultancy. We are experienced in prosecution matters, including complex cases involving non-traditional trademarks such as 3D, numerical, and colour trademarks, as well as designs and copyrights. We also address important aspects in industrial designs, patent prosecution, and plant variety cases. Moreover, we provide advisory services in areas such as data protection, unfair competition, consumer rights, and regulatory matters. We advise companies on data privacy, the management of their clients' personal information, and advertising across all media platforms (including online), ensuring compliance with regulations. In addition, we provide counsel on matters related to the successful opening and operation of retail stores across various sectors, including luxury and fashion boutiques, offering guidance on franchising, distribution, and licensing.
We are one of the most important firms in Latin America in enforcement, litigation, and brand protection. We handle customs cases, look-a-like cases, unfair competition matters, criminal and civil actions, as well as trademark and copyright infringements nationwide.
We specialize in providing nationwide training for public officers to identify counterfeit products, having conducted over 400 sessions to date. In 2024, we trained more than 5,800 enforcement officials and 1000 students in more than 45 cities and ports. We also actively engage in anti-counterfeiting efforts, conducting raids to confiscate counterfeit goods in previously unmonitored markets. As part of our protection strategy, we focus on larger targets and handle border measure cases and litigate against infringers at administrative, civil, and criminal stages.

In 2025, we have also become experts at UNIFAB ('Union des Fabricants'). As part of this, we actively participate as attendees and speakers at international events (more than 200) and contribute to their study committees.
