Steven is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney, a qualified IP Patent Litigator, and a Director and Shareholder at Cameron Intellectual Property.A physicist by training, Steven brings over 28 years of intellectual property experience across government, academia, and private practice.

In recent years, he has developed specialist expertise in laser printing systems, packaging technology, brewingkeg and cask solutions, surgical and dental devices, building components, and renewable energy systems.

Steven has extensive experience managing global patent portfolios for large corporate clients and maintains strong relationships within Cameron IP’s expanding international network of associate firms. He is always eager to forge new connections with overseas colleagues.

His early career as a patent examiner at the UK Intellectual Property Office sets him apart from most private-practice attorneys. That firsthand experience of searching, examining, and granting patents gives him a distinctive examiner’s perspective, enabling him to anticipate objections, draft robust applications, and secure the broadest possible protection for his clients. Over his career, he has successfully prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications worldwide.

Steven also has significant contentious experience. He was among the first UK attorneys to appear represent clients before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and has particular expertise in handling inventorship and entitlement disputes at the UKIPO.

Beyond patents, Steven is the firm’s leading authority on registered design law, regularly advising on the preparation and prosecution of UK, EU, and international design applications, as well as providing freedom-to-operate and validity opinions in this field.

Within Cameron IP, Steven serves on both the Executive and Operations Boards, helping shape the firm’s strategicdirection and operational improvements.

Outside work, Steven enjoys hillwalking in the Scottish Highlands and spending time with his family.

  • Example 1 - UPC Revocation Action - Steven advised US-based Fridababy, LLC, a manufacturer of baby products and conception aids, in relation to infringement allegations by a third party based in Europe. These allegations were defended via a complex revocation action brought before the Unified Patent Court in which Cameron IP represented the client.
  • Example 2 - High Court Design Infringement Action - Steven advised two UK based clients in relation to an action brought before the High Court (under Shorter Trials Scheme) for unregistered and registered design infringement of a packaging design.
  • Example 3 - UK Patent Entitlement Dispute - Steven advised Close Brewery Rentals Ltd, now eKeg Ltd, based in the UK, in relation to a patent entitlement dispute at inter partes proceedings culminating in a tribunal Hearing before the UK Intellectual Property Office. A successful outcome was achieved whereby patent rights improperly filed and secured by a competing third party relating to the cleaning of beer kegs were formerly transferred into the ownership of Cameron IP’s client. The removal of third party rights allowed the client to continue its commercial activities without risk of infringement. The published decision can be viewed at: Intellectual Property Office - Patents Decision
