DEQI was derived from the Patent Service Centre of the Ministry of Information Industry of the PRC which was founded in 1984, privatized and renamed DEQI in 2001. Now DEQI counts over 170 employees, including 77 patent attorneys, 7 trademark attorneys and 13 attorneys-at-law. With many multilingual professionals, DEQI provides a full range of IP-related services for clients worldwide including China, the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.
DEQI processes over 4000 cases per year. Cases domestic and international comprising incoming IP work and outgoing IP work are processed at DEQI simultaneously and evenly. Such a work structure requires comprehensive capabilities of DEQI professionals, including not only a good command of foreign languages, but also logical thinking, communication skills and drafting techniques. DEQI boasts abundant experience in drafting applications in both Chinese and English languages and have strong ability in technical understanding, which renders DEQI capable of providing overseas clients with precise technological and legal interpretations as opposed to literal translation.
More than half of DEQI’s attorneys have worked at the firm for over 10 years. Stability of the workforce means that the services provided by DEQI are of a consistently high standard. In 2013, DEQI was named one of Beijing’s top ten best patent agencies. In 2015, in China’s first publicly available ranking of patent agencies according to rate of patent grant, DEQI placed second among patent agencies whose total volume of granted patents exceeded 10,000.
We understand our work in this way:
As professional attorneys serving domestic clients, we cooperate with the inventors closely, to provide the full range of legal service, and our work from the aspect of patent protection even might bring the inventors technical inspiration and extension. We are pleasure to be placed as a “relier” by domestic clients.
As Chinese attorneys serving international clients, we translate the languages, to explain the specialty of Chinese laws, to convey the thinking of the Chinese examiners, to help the foreign companies and attorneys accurately understanding and processing. We stand on the role of the “helper” to our foreign clients to a larger extent.
No matter the “relier” or “helper”, we always emphasize the importance of “understanding”, the understanding on the technologies, the understanding on the languages, the understanding on the thinking and logics of examiners, the understanding on the instructions and intentions of the clients, etc, to improve the efficiency and accuracy of our service and communication.
