LexField Law Offices (based in Beijing, China) is a boutique IP firm. We provide a full spectrum of IP services, including strategy counselling, prosecution, enforcement, litigation as well as commercial and regulatory matters, and covering trademarks, patents, copyright, domain names and competition.
Our professionals have graduated from top-tier Chinese and overseas educational institutions. In addition to the rich experience in the IP law field, many of us have good educational background or industrial experience outside the legal world. All these have contributed to our knowledge, insight and skills needed to meet our clients’ various demands.
We always serve our clients in a business-sensitive, result-oriented and cost-effective manner. Our clients include prestigious multinationals and Chinese companies across a diverse array of industries from telecommunication, automobiles, information technology to life science, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, energy and chemical engineering. They include established market players and emerging newcomers. We tailor our services in response to different demands from different clients and are proud of the value we are able to add to our clients’ business.
The firm was founded in 2004 by Ms. Jan Liu, a leading IP attorney in China, under the name Jan Liu & Associates. In 2009, the firm joined force with a top-caliber litigation and patent prosecution team led by Mr. Hongyi Jiang. Since then, the firm has changed its name to LexField Law Offices, starting to provide full IP legal services.
The firm enjoys trust and commendation from the clients including a good number of Fortune 500 companies, as demonstrated by the fact that a major means by which we attract new clients is by word of mouth.
LexField’s professionals and practice groups are recognized by the world’s most respected legal publications (such as Chambers & Partners, MIP, WTR1000, IAM Patent 1000, Asia IP, etc.) receiving top rankings year after year.
WTR1000 applauds LexField’s quality trademark service as follows: “Splendid boutique LexField Law Offices provides an all-encompassing trademark service to an impressive collection of global mega-brands. Founding partner Jan Liu is the fulcrum around which the practice turns; she shines at finding creative solutions to complex branding conundrums. In recent times, Liu acted successfully for Google and Canon in oppositions, and triumphed for the former in an administrative lawsuit.”
IAM1000 sings highly of LexField’s IP Litigation team: ‘Beijing boutique LexField serves up a comprehensive suite of patent services, but is best known for its contentious prowess and ability to carry the day in high-stakes life sciences and high-technology litigations. Of particular note is the firm’s record in retrials before the Supreme Court, of which it has handled more than any of its competitors. A master of these proceedings – and the heart and soul of the firm – is Hongyi Jiang. His résumé features a string of substantial damages awards in high-rolling telecommunications disputes over SEPs and in major pharmaceutical patent suits. Jiang’s regulatory knowledge – accumulated during a lengthy stint as IP counsel for the State Food and Drug Administration – is also a significant boon. Captain of the prosecution department David Huang lends support in contentious affairs, but is principally focused on portfolio management in the computer science and high-technology areas. Clients hail him as a “knowledgeable, industrious and professional lawyer” whose “excellent English language skills facilitate communication and prevent errors”.’
Unrivalled trademarks practice
The firm’s trademark team, led by Ms. Jan Liu, is outstanding in the market for the high quality of its service. The team is highly responsive, provides tailor-made advice and understands the nuance of clients’ business. As a result, it has been highly recognized by both its worldwide clients and the Chinese peers.
The trademark team comprises 30 or so trademark professionals, including attorneys at law and trademark agents. It represents a large number of companies worldwide, including large multinationals, Fortune 500 companies and rapidly growing companies across diverse industry sectors.
Unsurpassed litigation practice
Many of the cases that the firm has handled have had widespread impact in China, setting new standards in IP law and establishing LexField as a leader in the IP litigation arena.
Pharmaceutical patent litigation is one of the most complicated and complex practice areas in the field of patent law. LexField litigation team has rich experience in this field and may have handled the largest number of pharmaceutical patent litigation cases in China, including many landmark cases.
Our litigation team has won more than 30 IP retrials and retrial applications before the Supreme People's Court in the recent few years, more than any other firm does. Retrial cases before the Supreme Court are to overturn judgments made by provincial Higher People’s Courts and are the most challenging in the Chinese legal system. The firm’s records demonstrate that the team clearly has the edge over competitors in the field.
Sophisticated prosecution and commercial IP practice
With a close interaction with the litigation team, our prosecution and commercial IP team is well equipped to help the clients build and exploit its patent portfolio in a cost effective manner and ready for enforcement and litigation. We help clients mine and identify legal protectable innovations, set up mechanisms internally and externally to safeguard and commercialize the innovations, and draft and prosecute patents that are intended to survive potential challenges and hold copycats liable. We conduct ourselves as an inherent extension of the client’s R&D, marketing and in-house legal team, proactively serve as the manager of the client’s IP assets and ensure that the client’s legal fees be justifiable investment for the enhancement of the IP assets which in turn increase the clients’ competition edge in the market and the companies’ own value.
