Managing IP’s February issue includes our trade mark rankings, a standard essential patents special report, a review of CJEU trade mark cases, AI protection strategies for patents and trade secrets, and data on the top parties in US district court and at the PTAB.

MIP Feb 2018 175

The issue features our highly-anticipated IP STARS trade mark rankings for 2018. These present the leading firms for trade mark work in more than 80 jurisdictions. It is the first set of results from the research for this year’s IP STARS. Managing IP will be publishing patent rankings in its March issue and copyright rankings in its April issue.

The February 2018 cover story is a two-part special on standard essential patents. The first part analyses whether the European Commission’s recent communication on SEPs successfully balanced competing interests or merely dodged the difficult questions. The second part provides takeaways from TCL v Ericsson – the fourth US bench trial to determine a FRAND royalty – and also reports on a possible change in the US Department of Justice's approach to SEPs and analyses Huawei's win over Samsung in China.

Elsewhere, we have articles on the European cases to watch out for, a review of the top CJEU trade mark cases last year, AI protection strategies for patents and trade secrets, and data and analysis on the top parties in US district court and at the PTAB last year.

The issue also features our international briefings, bringing updates from around the globe.

Subscribers can read the February issue and all previous issues online; non-subscribers can take a free trial for limited access.
