Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough and Broad and Cassel combine

Florida firms Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough and Broad and Cassel finalised their merger in August 2018. The combined firm, operating as Nelson Mullins Broad and Cassel, has over 725 attorneys across 11 states and the District of Columbia. This will feature a litigation practice with more than 400 attorneys.

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton hires patent litigation partner

Mansi Shah joined Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton's Silicon Valley patent litigation team. Mansi has over a decade of IP experience, managing complex patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation.

Fitzpatrick Cella Harper & Scinto agree to join Venable

In August 2018, Venable announced that it acquired Fitzpatrick Cella Harper & Scinto. The acquisition of Fitzpatrick, an IP boutique, will boost Venable’s IP practice. The firm will now have around 175 IP lawyers nationally, making it one of the largest IP practices in the county. The merger is expected to complete in November 2018.

Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni hired five IP lawyers

Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni welcomed five new lawyers in its offices in Boston, New York and Washington D.C. The most notable lawyer is Lindsay McGuiness who joined the Boston office from Hologic Inc, where she was chief IP counsel.

Michael Casey returns to Oblon

Patent attorney Michael Casey rejoined Oblon McClelland  Maier & Neustadt as partner after spending 13 years at Davidson Berquist Jackson & Gowdey. Casey has more than 20 years of experience in patent protection, focusing on computer technology, software and telecommunications.

Shearman & Sterling continues West Coast expansion

Shearman & Sterling appointed Kieran Kieckhefer as a partner in its California office. Kieckhefer is an experienced IP litigator and trial lawyer with a particular focus on technology disputes.

Alessandri hires new partner

Santiago Ortuzar, the former president of the Chilean Association of Intellectual Property, has joined Alessandri as a partner. Prior to joining Alessandri, Ortuzar was a partner at Beuchat Barros & Pfenniger.

 

Europe

Maucher Jenkins plans China expansion

The firm says it will become the first European IP firm to operate in Shenzhen, southeast China. Maucher Jenkins hopes to capitalise on Shenzhen’s large technology market.The office is expected to open in October 2018.

Juan José Marín to head HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER’s copyright practice

Juan José Marín, the founder of Law Offices of Juan José Marín, has been appointed to head up the copyright practice of HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER in Madrid, Spain. Juan is known for his expertise in copyright, especially in the field of software.

AWA hired Richard Lewinson

AWA hired Richard Lewinson to strengthen its high-tech IP practice in Sweden. Lewinson, who joined as a partner, is a lawyer with experience in IP licensing and litigation gained from his time in private practice and in-house.

Paul Misselbrook to head up Venner Shipley in Manchester

Venner Shipley has brought in Paul Misselbrook as a partner in its electronics and engineering department. He leads the Manchester office. Misselbrook is a patent and trade mark attorney as well as a trained IP litigator. He has a technical background in engineering.

Mewburn Ellis expands Bristol office

Mewburn Ellis has recruited European patent attorney Andrew Mears as a partner in its Bristol office. Mears has a technical background in electronic engineering, with experience in technical fields such as semiconductor and software.

New Munich partner for Page White and Farrer

European patent attorney Dirk C Söltenfuss has joined the new Munich office of Page White and Farrer as a partner. With a career spanning 15 years, Söltenfuss brings patent experience in mechanical engineering, electronics, automotive engineering and defence technologies.

Bird & Bird boosts its Spanish IP practice

Bird & Bird has appointed Mariano Santos as a partner in its Madrid office. Santos, who was previously with Herrero & Asociados, specialises in European trade marks with a focus on prosecution and appeals.

Trade mark practitioner Angeles Moreno has left Arochi & Lindner in Spain to set up her own firm named The Silver Clover IBERIANIP. In Finland, Dittmar & Indrenius’ head of IP Henrik af Ursin will join Merilampi Attorneys in November 2018 as a partner. In the UK, Mathys & Squire hired trade mark attorney Rebecca Tew from Marks & Clerk. Trade mark practitioner David Harper left Cedar White Bradley for Baker McKenzie Habib Al Mulla in the UAE. Simone Intellectual Property Services Asia (SIPS) recruited Erick Robinson from Beijing East IP to head up its patent practice in Beijing.
