Shumaker Loop & Kendrick and Miller IP Group merger
Miller IP Group has merged with US full-service law firm Shumaker Loop & Kendrick. Miller Group specialises in patent prosecution. This comes as part of Shumaker’s expansion into the Michigan market. Experienced patent practitioners Michael Marra and Bloomfield Hills office manager John Miller will remain with the firm.
Leopold von Gerlach becomes Hogan Lovells chair
IP partner Leopold von Gerlach has been appointed as chair of the Hogan Lovells board. He will serve in the position for three years and will be taking over from Nicholas Cheffings who served two terms as chair.
Massimo Sterpi and team move to Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners
Massimo Sterpi, former partner at Studio Legale Jacobacci & Associati, has moved to head up the IP practice at Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners in Rome. He takes with him an experienced team of IP practitioners including Francesca Fosson, Angela Tasillo, Luigia Bersani and Andrea Colantuoni.

Former head of IP at Taylor Wessing Ukraine, Ilarion Tomarov, has moved to Vasil Kisil & Partners. Tomarov specialises in IP, IT and e-commerce work and will act as counsel and head of IP at Vasil.
JA Kemp opens Paris office
UK patent and trade mark attorney firm JA Kemp has opened a new office in Paris. This will be the firm’s second office in continental Europe. Graham Lewis and Jimmy Nicholls will be heading the patent practice and James Fish will lead trade mark operations.
Reed Smith announce partner promotions
Reed Smith has promoted 23 practitioners to partners across offices in the UK, US and Germany. Amongst the new partners are Jason Garcia in Silicon Valley who focuses on trade marks; Matthew Gibson in Houston who specialises in patent prosecution; and Philip Thomas in London who specialises in IP, technology and data protection.

Former head of Reed Smith’s IP department in Paris, Marina Cousté, has become partner at Simmons & Simmons Paris. Joining Cousté is François Jonquères, a patent specialist who focuses on technology, biotechnology and chemistry.
