Since more than 25 years, Rudolf A. Rentsch acts as consultant and as litigant, in all areas of intellectual property law (in particular patent, trademark and copyright law) as well as competition law. He has vast experience in managing complex patent litigations as well as in coordinating international law suits. Further areas of expertise include ICT law, licensing law as well as legal and technical consultancy in the field of computers, software and telecommunications. He has been involved in cross-border litigation and contract matters in Asia, the USA and all over Europe for many years.

Rudolf A. Rentsch holds two master‘s degrees of leading universities, one in law at the University of St. Gallen (magna cum laude), and one in electrical engineering at the ETH Zurich. He did his doctorate in jurisprudence at the University of Zurich (summa cum laude). For 14 years, he acted as an elected member of the Swiss Federal Arbitration Commission for the exploitation of copyright and related rights. Since 2010 and until today, he is a part-time judge at the Swiss Federal Patent Court elected by the United Federal Assembly of the Swiss Parliament. In 2017, he was furthermore appointed as a member of the Advisory Board of Swiss Innovation Valley.

Dr. Rentsch is the founding partner of IPrime. He was a founding partner of the law firm Rentsch Partner Ltd, which was founded in 2001 as Rentsch & Partner, based in Zurich, where he was Chairman of the Board and Partner until 2016.

Throughout his career, Rudolf A. Rentsch was honored by various awards such as the Prof. Walther Hug Award (2017) and the Walter René Schluep Award (1987) and in 2001 was appointed as Honorary member of INGRES (Institute for Intellectual Property).

Moreover, he co-authored the recent commentary on Swiss patent law (2019 edition).
