Joe is currently the ABA-IPL representative to the ABA House of Delegates. He recently served as Chair of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law. He also formerly served as the Publications Officer for the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law and is a former member of the ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary.

Joe has served as a member and officer of numerous bar associations and committees, has edited a variety of American Bar Association monographs and has served in the ABA House of Delegates, Co-Chair of the ABA Patent Trial Advocacy Institute, Program Chair and faculty member of the first NITA Patent Trial Advocacy Institute specifically geared to patent litigation trial skills, Chair of the ABA Trademark Litigation Institute, and Council member and Director of the ABA Young Lawyers Division. He is past Chair of the ABA Section of Science and Technology, Secretary of the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law, past President of the Patent Lawyers Club of Washington, and is a founding member, Past President, and Master of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, and a member of the Brookings Institution Task Force on Intangibles, which published the book "Unseen Wealth."
