Attracted by Brandsmiths’ reputation in the market on the IP litigation side, he joined as partner in July 2024 and was promoted to head of the Trade Marks, Copyright and Designs practice in December 2024. Prior to this, Stephen worked at a leading firm of patent and trade mark attorneys, Barker Brettell, and during his time there went on secondment to Jaguar Land Rover and The Boots Company PLC.
Stephen is well versed in all matters relating to trade mark law and practice including clearance searching, prosecution, global portfolio strategy, UK enforcement and litigation, as well as international trade mark enforcement. Stephen also advises on copyright, design rights, and passing off matters as well.
Stephen has been described as a notable practitioner by Managing IP and as “approachable, committed and collaborative” as well as “knowledgeable, encouraging and incredibly helpful” clients.
He regularly advocates on behalf of his clients before the Tribunal, his most recent appearance being successful against Benet Brandreth KC for a case involving bad faith and passing off.
