Richard is an expert in intellectual property litigation, with a particular emphasis on resolving complex, high-value disputes.

He has represented clients in a variety of tribunals including the High Court, Court of Appeal, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. He has extensive experience of emergency procedures (interim injunctions, including propriety and non-propriety freezing orders) and an in-depth understanding of the relationship between civil and criminal IP enforcement.

Richard's scientific background and experience of a wide range of technologies make him well placed to advise on disputes with strong technical content. In addition to his patent practice, Richard is widely recognised in the fashion and luxury retail sectors, regularly speaking on such issues as anti-counterfeiting, parallel importation and comparative advertising.

Before joining Potter Clarkson in 2016, Richard spent 11 years at a leading national IP practice, having previously trained at a specialist TMT firm in the City.

Education/Alumni: Richard obtained his bachelor's degree in chemistry and law at the University of Bristol before he completed his Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of West England. He qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and then achieved his Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law & Practice in 2007.

Network Memberships: Richard is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and sits on the latter's copyright and designs committee. He is the firm's representative on the Intellectual Lawyers Association.
