Guy enjoys working across the full scope of the chemical sciences, handling subject matter ranging from semiconductor devices to formulations for respiratory medicine. He has a particular interest in pharmaceutical inventions.

Guy has extensive experience of drafting applications for inventions in a variety of fields and for clients with different goals. Supporting the growth of a company’s patent portfolio and advising the client on strategic considerations is a rewarding part of his work. He provides support and advice at every stage of the process, from the initial identification of potential intellectual property to the determination of an appropriate filing and prosecution strategy. In the pharmaceutical field, Guy has successfully prosecuted a number of challenging patent applications claiming new polymorphic forms of known compounds.

Working with applicants who file in a large number of countries around the world, Guy has gained insight into handling portfolios with broad geographical scope. This includes familiarity with prosecution in countries where applications are less commonly filed, as well as experience in how to leverage the grant of patents in some countries to streamline the prosecution of a family. A significant part of Guy’s work relates to technology transfer and he is used to working closely with academics.

Guy also has been involved in due diligence matters, consolidation of ownership for patent estates and a number of freedom to operate and validity analyses.
