Our expertise expands over a complete range of IP solutions encompassing patent, trademark, industrial design and copyright matters in various jurisdictions, especially Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. With headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and a sister office in Singapore since 1998, we operate directly in these jurisdictions, as well as in other countries through a network of trusted foreign associates.

Our Practice Area
We practice in all main areas of intellectual property but focus especially on patent, trademark and industrial design protection.
Henry Goh’s patent practice is the IP foundation of the firm since patent laws come into force in Malaysia in the 1980s. Although the world’s patent systems were designed for the industrial age, they have evolved and the patenting of high technology inventions have become the norm rather than the exception. Effective drafting, prosecution and exploitation of patents call for a sound aptitude for technology, in-depth knowledge of the applicable law and practice, and excellent communication skills; which we have.
The firm is home to the largest and most experienced team of legally and technically qualified patent professionals in Malaysia. Henry Goh’s patent agents have considerable depth of experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and contentious matters, in a wide variety of technical fields, both locally and internationally. Our local knowledge, expertise and resources make the firm the natural choice for patent prosecution in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. We provide honest, sound, accurate and timely advice on identification of patentable inventions, drafting of patent specifications, and prosecution of Malaysian, Singapore, Brunei and overseas patent applications. At Henry Goh, we uniquely handle industrial design matters under the patent department as all our patent agents are also qualified and registered design agents in Malaysia. Industrial design in this modern era of technology is a unique 21st century alliance between entrepreneurship, creative thinking and innovation. The beauty in a well-designed form can often be the decisive factor for consumers. Henry Goh routinely assists clients in securing industrial design registrations both at home and abroad. Such a practice demands a sound understanding of both international and local laws covering industrial designs. The firm can assist clients with the necessary actions in the event that their registered industrial designs are infringed by third parties.
Our trademark practice is the other IP cornerstone of the firm since its inception more than four decades ago. Our trademark team of more than 20-strong personnel is reliable and efficient in the handling and management of all work facets of trade and service mark protection, providing sound and honest advice in pre-filing search, timely filing and effective prosecution, hearing and opposition, prompt renewals, proper maintenance, and advising on trademark enforcement.
Our wealth of experience and rapport cultivated with the local Trademarks Office at MyIPO makes us familiar with the changing practices of the local examiners. This makes us the ideal and dependable agent for fuss-free trademark protection in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. We are also adept in filing trademark and service mark registrations in any country worldwide through our network of foreign associates, as well as international applications via the Madrid Protocol.
To adapt to the new national Trademarks Act that came into force in late 2019, we had very early on built a strong understanding of the amended laws and established a well-oiled practice that is in tune with such changes.
Henry Goh works closely with external counsel and the relevant authorities in IP enforcement work to ensure a favourable outcome.
Our Adaptability
Notwithstanding our pioneer status, we have continued to evolve with the everchanging IP landscape in Malaysia and around the world. When the global pandemic hits, we have transitioned seamlessly to working remotely from home and accessing our virtual files on our own customized case management system. Business was as usual (as much as practicable) attending to clients’ needs and communicating with MyIPO using technological aides and virtual platforms. Post-pandemic, such adaptability has continued to steer us into the new future of a more productive way of working.
