Sigurjónsson & Thor was established in 1950. The partners are Valborg Kjartansdóttir/ Magnús Haukur Magnússon and Magnús Hrafn Magnússon. The firm specialises in intellectual property and unfair competition, and provides IP protection services, including representation before the Patent Office, the Board of Appeal, and the courts. Legal advice and representation before the authorities and the courts are an important part of the firm’s services. A high percentage of clients is foreign companies. Clients come from all business sectors. The firm also cooperates with and has connections to law firms in several other jurisdictions all over the world. The firm’s staff includes people with extensive experience of IP work who provide services from the very first stages of legal advice, regarding copyright and IP protection, strategies and defences against breach of trademark rights in Iceland. The firm has developed and maintained an inhouse database for registered trademarks since 1990, that is used in analysing facts in disputes and status of registrations, as a part of providing of legal advice.
Clients are served from the first initial analysis up to the Supreme Court and can thus, depend on the same legal firm, in all steps from evaluation of the facts, representation before the authorities, as for example the Patent Office, the Board of Appeal and before the District Courts/Court of Appeal and/or the Supreme Court, if necessary. Our lawyers have the rights and experience in presenting clients before District Courts/Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Iceland and are European Patent and Trademark Attorneys.
