Beijing East IP Ltd and Beijing East IP Law Firm (collectively, East IP) were founded in Beijing by Lulin Gao, one of the founders of the modern Chinese IP legal system. Dr Gao worked as commissioner of the Chinese Patent Office from 1987 to 1998. He was responsible for the establishment of the State Intellectual Property Office and served as its first commissioner. From 1998 to 2000, he was appointed a senior adviser to WIPO in Geneva. He is still active in the IP community and currently serves as honorary president of the All-China Patent Agents Association, adviser to the International Intellectual Property Institute, vice chair of the China Internet Society, senior counsel of the China Internet Network Information Centre, and arbitrator with the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre and the Domain Name Dispute of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
