Aera was set up in 2018 by four European patent attorneys who previously worked for well-established IP firms in the market. The firm has drafting and prosecution expertise in technical fields such as life sciences, medical devices and electronics. The key European patent attorneys in the firm are Nicka Kirstejn, Per Larsen, Hanane Fathi Roswall and Anders Sandgaard. The firm is looking to further expand its team and practice, and it is an IP firm to watch in this market.

Patent case studies show the firm advised Lantmännen Medical AB on drafting, filing and prosecution. The firm hired Ylva Skoglösa from a top tier IP firm in March 2019 and welcomed veteran life sciences patent attorney Marianne Johansen in January 2020. US patent attorney Dan Fischer, who has a background in engineering, also joined the firm in October 2020. Mechanics patent attorney Ingolfur Palsson left the firm in March 2020. European patent attorneys Juan Sánchez García and Bojan Savic arrived in 2021.

Former Chas Hude head of legal Thorbjørn Swanstrøm joined the firm in April 2022.
