Beijing East IP Ltd and Beijing East IP Law Firm (collectively, East IP) were founded in Beijing by Lulin Gao, one of the founders of the modern Chinese IP legal system. Dr Gao worked as commissioner of the Chinese Patent Office from 1987 to 1998. He was responsible for the establishment of the State Intellectual Property Office and served as its first commissioner. From 1998 to 2000, he was appointed a senior adviser to WIPO in Geneva. He is still active in the IP community and currently serves as honorary president of the All-China Patent Agents Association, adviser to the International Intellectual Property Institute, vice chair of the China Internet Society, senior counsel of the China Internet Network Information Centre, and arbitrator with the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre and the Domain Name Dispute of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. Dr Gao’s experience and insights into intellectual property are the cornerstone of East IP’s development.
Since its establishment in 2002, East IP has strived to provide clients with high-quality IP services with efficiency and has become a leading IP firm in China. East IP offers a complete set of IP services, ranging from patent and trademark prosecution and litigation to other IP rights protection and enforcement. East IP has represented and provided consultation to many multinational and Fortune 500 corporations. Its professional services have earned the firm numerous accolades, both from clients and IP specialist publications, including the World Trademark Review, The Legal 500, Asia IP, the Financial Times, and Managing Intellectual Property’s IP Hall of Fame and IP Stars. Of particular note is the trademark team winning the Best Local Counsel Award at the Facebook Global Counsel Summit during the 2019 INTA Annual Meeting in Boston for consistent high-quality service and outstanding performance. In the award speech, Facebook highlighted East IP’s tireless efforts and pioneering work in court appeal cases.
East IP has a team of over 200 professionals dedicated to providing leading services in China in the areas of IP and technology law. Most team members hold MSs and PhDs in engineering or science from leading universities in China, Japan, the United States or Europe. The East IP attorneys’ enthusiasm and qualifications enable them to gain both extensive legal experience and diverse technical expertise through the handling of many landmark IP cases in China.
Dr Gao’s experience and resource-sharing managing style have shaped the firm into a unique and highly diversified infrastructure, enabling the East IP attorneys to gain exceptionally strong and comprehensive patent and trademark skills focusing on the preparation of prosecution, enforcement, litigation, administrative proceedings and patent information analysis. With Gao Lulin scholarships offered at prestigious law schools such as Tsinghua Law School in China and John Marshall Law School in the United States, East IP continues to expand its influence among young talents. East IP also fully utilises modern technology such as Microsoft’s customer relationship management system and the firm’s proprietary proofreading software (MISO) and case management system (SiMuse). Together, East IP managing team and attorneys offer some of the most valuable resources in China to provide clients with top-quality IP services.
