For over 30 years, Dorota has been advising Polish and international companies on all aspects of IP law. Since 2007, she has been the Managing Partner at JWP Patent & Trademark Attorneys.

She combines extensive knowledge and experience of the attorney at law with the competences of the Polish and European patent and trademark attorney, therefore she successfully represents clients in contentious and court litigation proceedings resulting from the infringement of exclusive rights, also in complicated patent disputes.

From the beginning of her professional career, she has been dealing with disputes and court cases, advising on the procedural strategy as well as IP portfolio management and transactions. Among the court cases she conducts, cases concerning infringement of patents and combating acts of unfair competition prevail. Over the years, Dorota has specialised in handling cases of pharmaceutical patent infringements, successfully representing Polish and international pharmaceutical companies in the court proceedings (including interim injunction proceedings), as well as conducting litigation proceedings for the invalidation of patents and related court and administrative proceedings before the Provincial and Supreme Administrative Court. Many years of practice in this field have made her one of the most recognised Polish practitioners in patent matters.

The pharmaceutical market has not been the only sector of her professional activity. She has conducted a number of court proceedings concerning the publishing and press market. She successfully represented the largest Polish publisher in the proceedings of high monetary value (several million zlotys) relating to unfair competition involving the use of similar trademarks by competitors.

Dorota also has experience in cases related to the protection of the reputation of products and the company (companies from the fashion industry), protection of business secrets (companies from the tourism and pharmaceutical sector), dissemination of false information (a pharmaceutical company), protection of the external form of the products (fashion industry) and copyrights (a big printing house, fashion companies, video games and others).

Dorota also deals with matters related to protecting IP rights on the Internet and in the digital environment, advising companies from the e-commerce sector and Internet domain name holders.

On top of her advisory work, she is an arbitrator in the matters of .pl Internet domains before the Internet Domain Court at the Polish Chamber of IT and Telecommunication and in .eu domain name ADR at the Prague Arbitration Court.

Recently, her interests have also focused on mediation which gains popularity in Poland.
She participates in mediations representing her clients, but also she herself is a qualified IP court mediator and mediator at the Arbitration Court of Lewiatan Polish Employers Confederation and at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Representing an entity from the publishing industry, she was the first attorney in Poland to conduct mediation proceedings with the Polish Patent Office. The mediation tackled the question of trademark distinctiveness through secondary meaning and it ended with a settlement. Dorota is an active member of the ADR Committee at INTA and AIPPI.

She is an author of many publications and articles, i.e. a co-author of the book Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights through Border Measures Law and Practice in the EU, edited by Olivier Vrins and Marius Schneider, a co-author of the book Patent litigation. Jurisdictional comparisons, collective work edited by M. Sterpi, Jacobacci Sterpi Francetti Regoli de Haas & T. Calame, Lenz & Staechelin and a co-author of a commentary to the Industrial Property Law Act edited by Dr. P. Kostanski (CH Beck, 2010), as well as a contributing author of the publication Getting the Deal Through Copyrights, and Getting the Deal Through Trademarks.

She is the founder of JWP Foundation which promotes IP protection and educates on IP Law. Dorota is actively involved in training activities for companies, scientists, students and youngsters.

She is also a speaker at many local and international conferences.
