Cozen O’Connor hired chemistry and life sciences specialist Jeffrey N Townes as a partner in its IP department in Washington DC. Townes joins from LeClairRyan, where he was also a partner. He handles patent prosecution and litigation work.
Trial lawyer Steven Carlson joined Robins Kaplan’s IP and technology litigation practice as a partner. Carlson is best known for his patent litigation practice which spans a range of technical fields including high-technology. He was previously with Kasowitz Benson Torres.
Hogan Lovells hired IP lawyer Julia Anne Matheson as a partner in its Washington DC office. She specialises in trade mark protection and disputes work. Matheson was previously a partner at Finnegan, where she spent over two decades.
Copyright specialist Paul Fakler has joined Orrick as a partner in its IP department. Fakler is known for advising on technical copyright matters, particularly licensing disputes. He joins from Arent Fox.
Cole Schotz recruited soft IP lawyer William Stroever as a partner and co-chair of its IP practice. Stroever advises on IP strategy, commercialisation and dispute resolution. He was previously a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig.
Katten Muchin Rosenman hired Sean S Wooden as a partner in its IP department in Washington DC office. Wooden specialises in patent commercialisation and disputes and will work alongside the corporate team at the firm's new Dallas office. Previously Wooden was a partner at Andrews Kurth Kenyon.
IP litigators Clayton Thompson and Yakov ‘Jake’ Zolotorev have rejoined DLA Piper as partners in its IP and technology practice in Silicon Valley. They left the firm in 2011 to establish boutique patent firm Feinberg Day Alberti & Thompson. Both practitioners are experienced in advising computer and electronics companies. DLA Piper also welcomed new partners in its IP department in other offices: IP litigator Tamany Bentz (previously with Venable) and entertainment lawyer Ben Mulcahy joined in Los Angeles; entertainment lawyer Gina Reif Ilardi joined in New York; and fintech lawyers Margo Tank and R David Whitaker joined in Washington DC and Chicago respectively.
Grant & Eisenhofer has launched an IP practice which is led by IP trial lawyer Eric Evain. He is experienced in litigating patent disputes in a range of technical fields and was previously a partner at Reed Smith. Evain’s technical background is in chemistry.
Nixon Peabody hired two patent partners, Vincent Yip and Peter Wied, in its Los Angeles office. They are known for advising technology companies on IP disputes and strategy. Wied specialises in patent protection and management, while Yip handles litigation and licensing.
Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton welcomed Grace L Pan as a partner in its IP practice in New York. Pan specialises in patent litigation and was previously a partner at Holland & Knight. She is also qualified as a lawyer in Japan and Taiwan.

Dykema Cox Smith hired Michael P Adams as a member in its IP litigation practice in the Austin office. He specialises in patent and trade mark protection and litigation. Adams has a background in electrical engineering and joins from Texas-based law firm Jackson Walker.
Jennifer E Lacroix has joined SmithAmundsen as partner in the Chicago office. Lacroix specialises in patent and trade mark prosecution and portfolio management work. She was previously with DLA Piper.
Akerman hired Caroline Mankey and Kanika Corley as partners in its Los Angeles office. Both lawyers, who joined from Sedgwick, are best known for advising clients in the media and entertainment sector. Mankey specialises in litigation.
