Managing IP’s Rising Stars 2023

Managing IP launched its official Rising Stars publication in 2018 (read more here). This special publication, which is produced by the IP STARS research team, recognises some of the best up-and-coming intellectual property practitioners in private practice who have contributed to the success of their firms and clients. Although selection is primarily based on an individual’s contributions and expertise, we can also take account of their activities in the IP community.

The Rising Stars list is based on information obtained during the research for the 2023 edition of IP STARS rankings and Managing IP Awards programme. Our research analysts used all available research data, especially firm submissions and market feedback, to produce this list. Read about the research methodology below.

The number of practitioners, firms and jurisdictions featured each year is subject to change. We expanded our coverage this year, featuring more than 50 jurisdictions, some of which are listed below. Our aim each year is to find new talent and expand this publication, but we need research data to achieve this. Read about how to participate in our research here.

This publication complements the Corporate IP Stars list (for in-house IP practitioners) and the Top 250 Women in IP list (the leading female IP practitioners in private practice), all of which are produced by the IP STARS research team.

To see all the practitioners ranked this year, go to a firm/company or jurisdiction page and click on the ‘Practitioners’ tab.

Congratulations to all the practitioners ranked this year.

Research methodology

Each year, we obtain information from thousands of practitioners/firms and their clients through interviews, emails and online surveys. One of the surveys is the Managing IP Rising Star survey, which is sent to practitioners who are currently ranked as Rising Stars and other junior IP practitioners who may be interested in it. Completing the survey does not guarantee ranking.

Our research analysts review all the information and conduct their own independent research, including an analysis of publicly available information (such as court or IP office data) and previous research data, before producing the rankings. They consider all firms that submitted their research forms, but, where appropriate, they can rely on independent research findings and/or market feedback to rank practitioners and/or firms.

The individuals we select as Rising Stars typically have less than 10 years’ post-qualification experience and are below the position of partner or equivalent level. In certain circumstances, we can consider and rank individuals with more than 10 years of experience and new or junior partners.

The 2023 practitioner rankings are based on the information available at the time the core research was completed (February 2023). Except for firm name changes, any subsequent developments or information that could influence this year’s rankings will be considered during the research for the 2024 edition. Our research analysts regularly monitor firms and their practitioners throughout the year and therefore Managing IP reserves the right to change any ranking and/or remove a firm or individual from our website at any time.

For the avoidance of doubt, the ranking tag does not suggest or indicate that the expertise of the practitioner is limited to the practice area in question. Because many practitioners will have experience in different areas of IP law and practice, we offer them the opportunity (for a fee) to publish detailed information about their practice. Managing IP does not recommend or endorse any practitioner or firm for IP work. Please read the terms of use concerning our content here.

The research for the IP STARS rankings is conducted rigorously and impartially. No firm or individual can pay to be ranked, and there is no fee to participate in our research. Firms and individuals can, however, pay to publish their IP practice profile on our website. The IP STARS rankings are not influenced by any commercial relationship, including advertising, with Managing IP or IP STARS. The rankings are subject to change each year. The fact that an individual was mentioned in our firm editorial or ranked in a previous edition does not guarantee ranking in a future edition. Furthermore, participation in our research does not guarantee ranking.

For the avoidance of doubt, Managing IP’s Rising Stars publication is a separate research project which is not connected to or influenced by Delinian's LMG Rising Stars Awards programme.
