Johan Løje is a partner at Løje Arnesen & Meedom, a Danish IP boutique ranked in this year’s edition of IP STARS. Løje was the lead lawyer for Shoe Branding Europe (the intervener) in the EU General Court in an appeal brought by adidas against the EUIPO decision concerning the validity of its three-stripe figurative EU mark. In short, the court agreed with the EUIPO Board of Appeal, holding that adidas has not proved that its mark has distinctive character to be registered. It remains to be seen if adidas will appeal to the EU Court of Justice. In the meantime, congratulations, Løje!
