Marianne is a seasoned expert in patent counselling, patent drafting, prosecution, and IP analysis, including due diligence, clearance, and freedom to operate opinions. She is adept in handling patent oppositions, revocation proceedings, infringement analyses, and advising on patent litigation. Her expertise extends to strategic IP planning and patent portfolio management, also including advising and handling supplementary protection certificates and pediatric extensions . Marianne represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO, and PCT authorities. She also acts as the primary agent for patent families, including other national counterparts.
Her clientele ranges from small startups to large national and international corporations, primarily within life sciences, chemistry, and particularly in organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, nutrition, feed, health, and pharmaceuticals. Marianne has significant experience advising start-up businesses, research organizations, and industry players.
Marianne has served as a patent expert judge at the Oslo Appeal Court and is listed as a patent expert judge for the Oslo District Court. She represents clients in EPO oppositions and oral proceedings before the Opposition Division and EPO Boards of Appeal. Additionally, she regularly delivers lectures on patent protection and IP strategy and has authored articles on IPR.
Marianne holds an M.Sc. in chemistry from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, specializing in organic chemistry. She has extensive industry experience, having worked as an in-house patent attorney for about 20 years. Her IP career began at GE Healthcare (1998-2014), where she managed IP portfolios related to imaging contrast agents, formulations, and manufacturing, particularly for ultrasound, MRI, and x-ray contrast agents. She also worked at Pronova BioPharma Norge AS (BASF AS) (2014-2017), handling IP portfolios related to fatty acids for pharmaceuticals, supplements, and nutrients. Her industry experience has provided her with extensive knowledge in strategy building and linking IP to business strategies.
