Johan Hervius Löthman joined Zacco in 2005 and works with all aspects of patents, including strategic counselling, application drafting and prosecution, patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analysis and dispute resolution. He graduated in 2005 with an M.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics from Uppsala University School of Engineering, specialising in theoretical physics with an emphasis on particle physics and quantum mechanics.

Johan works within a diverse range of technical fields and takes particular interest in protection of software and computer-implemented inventions, including algorithms, user interfaces, cloud-based systems and services (IoT), and features pertaining to machine learning and artificial intelligence. Besides working with clients from the IT, software and telecommunications sectors, Johan has extensive experience working alongside clients within the Medtech and automotive industries.

Johan takes a pragmatic and commercial approach to IP and believes that patents should be used, and viewed, as important strategic assets. He likes to work in close collaboration with his clients and is often seen as a trusted adviser rather than external counsel. He places great importance on knowing his clients and understanding their specific business needs in order to ensure that IP rights and strategies are created, developed and used to fully support and promote their business objectives.

Johan is the Team Manager of the Telecommunications & Physics Team in Zacco Sweden East & North, a geographically distributed team with patent experts working out of Stockholm, Uppsala, Linköping and Västervik. Johan is an authorized European Patent Attorney and a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI).
