Isabelle Chabot is head of IP at Umano Medical.
Before joining the company, she was Director - Patents at EXFO Inc, the communications industry’s test, monitoring and analytics experts. She oversaw EXFO’s patent department, including the practices concerning invention discovery and mining, patent protection, validity and infringement and licensing. She shaped EXFO's worldwide patent strategy and was in charge of the worldwide patent portfolio of all of EXFO’s subsidiaries in Canada, the USA, Finland, the UK, Spain, France and Taiwan.
Before joining EXFO in this in-house position, Isabelle worked as a patent agent in two Canadian national law firms cumulating 18 years of private practice experience counseling a variety of clients, in particular on the best strategy for protecting their software and computer-implemented inventions. She is an electrical engineer by training.
Her involvement with the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) testifies to her global vision of IP. She is currently president of the Canadian group of AIPPI and was a member of the international Bureau from 2017 to 2021. She is an experienced speaker with an educational approach and has developed multiple tools to accompany engineers and managers in the patent process. She coached many young entrepreneurs on IP matters. She is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC). In her spare time, she volunteers her time to encourage girls to pursue careers in STEM.
