MERH-IP is a law firm based in Munich established as a law firm of four patent attorneys with many years of experience, who were previously partners in three other law firms. Since our founding in 2009, we have grown into a medium-sized law firm with more than 50 employees including 5 partners, 15 patent attorneys and 9 technical experts.

The law firm sees itself as an “intellectual property boutique” specializing in the field of commercial legal protection. Our aim is to be a fast service provider in the field of commercial legal protection, where the quality of the work and a trusting client relationship come first.

Our range of services includes advice and representation in the areas of patents, trademarks, utility models, design patents, employee invention law.

The firm is focusing on prosecution in the field of mechanics and electronics with an emphasis on telecommunication, automotive technology, semiconductors, medical systems, and energy/power generation.

In addition, partners of the firm are continuously involved in infringement proceedings, mostly in the field of telecommunication and automotive technology.
In total, dispute matters are about 20% of the firm’s work.

The law firm represents well-known international corporations from Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan as well as medium-sized companies, start-up companies and individual inventors. Major clients include Hitachi, Blackberry, Dolby, Visteon, Fuji Electric, European Space Agency, Alcatel Lucent, NTT DoCoMo, Seiko Epson Corporation, DMG Mori Seiki, Mitutoyo Corporation, Dialog Semiconductor.

The law firm has grown significantly in the last 3 years, as a major international mandate (leading global provider of information and communication technology solutions and products) was acquired, as well as a leading German company in the field of textile machinery (Karl Mayer Stoll). In addition, a large number of start-ups were supported in setting up an intellectual property rights portfolio.

We are particularly known for our innovative and efficient strategies prosecuting applications and our above-average patent grant rate, also in technical areas where the rejection rate is usually very high, e.g. computer-implemented inventions.

These particularly good results are based on our “team-approach”, which focuses on additional research and the processing of cases by several team members. The high quality of the work is also ensured by inhouse training seminars, "MERH-IP lunchtime lecture".

MERH-IP attaches great importance to diversity and provides a diverse and inclusive workspace, providing a welcoming environment that embraces the differences and offers respect for everybody. That is why our workforce in all areas is made up of a colorful mix of different nations, age groups and characters.

One particular measure for improving the integration of different individuals to a team, is the MERH-IP annual multi-day trip. During this annual multi-day trip, the feeling of togetherness even grows. Each trip is organized with activities where the Team-members of the law firm can build trust and understanding for each other.

Our focus on diversity and inclusion also becomes apparent when considering the fact that we also offered our support to a patent attorney who had to escape from the war in Ukraine.
