Allan Brett is a leader of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Sciences Practice Groups in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office. With over 20 years of experience, he has drafted in excess of 200 originating patent applications. Allan's practice is focused on patent protection of electrical, electronic and computer-related inventions in Canada, the United States and around the world. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for a variety of technologies, including communications, semiconductors, memory systems, optical systems, software and business methods.
Allan also provides strategic advice on portfolio development, management and utilization. He has assisted in the drafting and patenting of technology that formed the basis of one of the largest high technology deals in Canadian history. Allan is sought out by both local small to mid-size entities and top global innovators to protect their intellectual property interests in Canada and elsewhere.
