Katarzyna is a Polish and European patent attorney. Her practice areas include drafting and prosecuting of patent applications, enforcing patents, litigation and counselling in the field of mechanics, in particular civil engineering, mining, mechanical engineering, household appliances, packaging etc. She represents clients before the Polish Patent Office, the European Patent Office, Polish courts and WIPO. Having worked for major international clients, e.g. in tobacco machinery, mining machinery and equipment, coffee machines and flooring materials, agriculture equipment, she has gained a considerable experience both in obtaining and enforcing patents.
Katarzyna studied at Warsaw University of Technology she holds a MSc degree in civil engineering and building construction. She also had postgraduate Intellectual Property Studies at Jagiellonian University in Cracow becaming a Polish patent attorney in 1999 and a European patent attorney in 2004.
In 2015 she co-founded a boutique IP firm Karcz Zakrocka Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys in Warsaw, providing a full range of services for protection of Intellectual Property rights. Previously (1997-2015) she worked for Patpol Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys Company. Starting from the position of the patent attorney trainee, Katarzyna became Patpol’s Head of Patent Department in 2004 and then in 2009 the firm’s Managing Partner. During all her time at Patpol she was active as a Polish and European patent attorney.
Katarzyna has been recognized as a recommended patent prosecution practitioner by IAM Patent 2013, 2014 and 2015 Ranking of World’s Leading Patent Practitioners. She was awarded the Managing Intellectual Property IP Star title in 2014 and 2015.
Being a member of Polish Chamber of Patent Attorneys, Polish Group of AIPPI (formerly vice-president, currently treasurer) she is also an author of or contributor to numerous national and international publications e.g. „Getting the Deal Through – Patents 2012”, „Patent Claim Interpretation - Global Edition”.
Her working languages are Polish, English and French.
